Government
A Muslim man was arrested and detained for several hours based on a complaint of reckless driving. At the police station the man was handcuffed to a table for three hours and only allowed one phone call. He was offered no explanation as to why he was being detained.
A Muslim man complained of a four-year delay in obtaining his green card. This delay is further upsetting to him as he was traveling to visit an ill family member.
Employment
A Palestinian, female Professor of fourteen-years, was dismissed from her position based on a false accusation that she made an anti-Semitic remark in class. This decision to dismiss her from the college was made without any investigation into the accuracy of the allegations.
A Muslim man was laid off from his job after protesting the companys policy of not allowing employees to pray or break their fast during Ramadan.
A Muslim employee received a derogatory email from his manager, along with his colleagues. The email contained an article stating false and offensive information about Muslims.
Prison
A Muslim inmate with poor vision had his Quran on tape taken away at the hands of officials from the IDOC. He feels this action was uncalled for and solely based on his religious beliefs.
A Muslim man is seeking assistance from CAIR in filing a judgment appeal for his conviction.
An inmate complained that he and several other Muslim inmates are being denied an inmate-led prayer gathering within the prison.
Two Muslim inmates complained that proper meal accommodations are not being made for them within the prison.
Three inmates contacted CAIR-Chicago requesting Islamic materials, such Quran on tape, prayer rugs, prayer beads, and a kufi. CAIR-Chicago put them in contact with organizations that could mail them these items.
